UNPUTDOWNABLE: Bought this to take on holiday this summer but once I started reading I couldn’t stop! It gripped me from page 1 and never let up. I expected it to be a thriller – which it is – but I hadn’t expected it to pack such an emotional punch. I cried several times! It’s an emotional rollercoaster ride. Well written, intricately plotted and cleverly structured – with a cast of believable characters. Highly recommended!

UTTERLY GRIPPING: This book hooked me from start to finish. Beautifully written. Brilliantly plotted. And very emotional. The central character is so well-drawn and completely relatable. Each chapter ends on a cliffhanger making it hard to put down ! My husband – not a big reader- has just started it, keen to out what all the fuss was about!

GREAT READ: Grabbed me from the very first page and didn’t let go. It’s a mix of heart-stopping suspense and raw emotion that had me hooked right through to the end. The writing feels so real— you can truly feel the love, grief, and fear of the characters. Powerful, moving, and impossible to put down. One of those books that stays with you long after you’ve finished. Absolutely unputdownable.

EXCELLENT: Really enjoyed this book. Perhaps not your typical thriller, but a heartfelt examination of love, grief, and loss, particularly the damage it can inflict on families. Great characterisation and emotion, and the dialogue is strong. A fascinating insight into child protection services too. Very well written and highly recommended.

RAW HONESTY: This a brave subject for a first novel. Mother Fear explores toxic relationships and effect that this has on families, especially children. Matt Bromley’s writing effectively conveys the raw emotions at the heart of the story and lays bear the anger and grief as his protagonist’s life seems to dissolve around him and he comes up against the unfeeling bureaucracy of a system seemingly weighted against him. It makes for a difficult read at times – and I mean that as a compliment since these are difficult subjects to explore – but the author writes with convincing authority and honesty about the subject. A strong effort for a first novel.
