Lessons from teacher training – the full series

By Matt Bromley

Initial teacher training programmes can provide seasoned professionals with a fresh perspective on their own practice. Certainly, this year, as I have lectured my trainee teachers as lead lecturer on a national ITT programme, I’ve thought my sessions would be useful, not just for those new to the profession, but for all teachers. As such, over the course of nine articles, I have shared my ITT journey in the hope it provides some useful opportunities to reflect on your own classroom practice.

Here are links to all nine parts of this series:

Part 1: Ten characteristics of expert teachers

Part 2: The why-how-what of teaching

Part 3: Teachers’ roles and responsibilities

Part 4: How to plan learning – planning an ambitious, broad and balanced sequence of lessons

Part 5: How to plan learning – planning a well-sequenced and equitable sequence of lessons

Part 6: How to plan learning – planning for retrieval practice and assessment

Part 7: How to facilitate learning

Part 8: How to assess learning

Part 9: How to evaluate learning
